Botox Safety

The first rule of Botox safety is that the procedure is perform ONLY by a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience with all aspects of the procedure. Without this you are playing with fire.

That said, almost every city in the United States has more than their share of certified doctors who can perform this relatively minor treatment. As a testament to the popularity of the treatment, more and more doctors are adding this to their repertoire.

There are some things that you should keep in mind.

The first is that about 1 in four patients who have had a Botox treatment report some mild side effects. While there has never been a reported fatality resulting from a Botox treatment, there are still some concerns that need to be addressed.

If you do experience some side effects, you should consult your physician immediately. Often this includes weakness and a 'drooping' of the eyelids. For most people this is nothing more than a mild discomfort and the effects will usually go away in about a month.

Other side effects of Botox

  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Malaise
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Rashes at sites distant from the injections

But again these are fairly rare. If you need more information about Botox side effects consult Botox Side Effects on our website.

As for other Botox safety precautions, it is important not to consume alcohol leading up to the procedure and after the procedure. Alcohol can effect the circulation and blood flow in your body, which could, if altered, negatively manifest itself after treatment.

Lastly, keep in mind that Botox is a powerful poison. It is after all an injection of Botulism. So never, under any circumstance, try and duplicate the procedure in your home. The dose of poison in each Botox treatment is miniscule and tampering with the dose and formula could result in serious problems.
