How it is Used?

If you find yourself thinking, "I would like to use a camouflage cosmetic but I wonder how is it used?" You first need to understand that there are three types of camouflage cosmetics and each has a slightly different use.

Concealers, color-correctors and contouring products all serve a slightly different purpose so, naturally, each involves a different application technique.

Concealer is the most widely used camouflage cosmetic because it can cover up a variety of imperfections including blemishes and incision lines. If you are in the market for a concealer you should pick a product that is quite thick and opaque. The product should be creamy enough to blend into your skin and it should be in a shade that matches well with your natural skin tone.

Before you buy a concealer it is a good idea to test the product out on your wrist so you can see how well the shade will blend with the color of your skin. Don't try to pinch pennies when it comes to purchasing concealer. The more expensive brands are usually of a much higher quality and will therefore look much more natural. When you apply the concealer do so with a cosmetic sponge and be sure to blend the product in well. If the concealer does not look natural you might want to apply foundation overtop.

Purchase high-quality products

When buying camouflage cosmetics such as concealers, color-correctors, and contouring products, you need to choose the ones that are of high-quality. If you need to spend more to get them then do so since most of the time, great products are really more expensive.

Unlike concealer, which can be used all over the face, color-correctors should only be applied where redness or bruising is evident. If you are looking to cover up redness choose a green color-corrector, but if you are trying to disguise bruising you should look into a lavender color-corrector. To cover the after-effects of plastic surgery apply the product directly onto the discoloration and blend it in. You will probably want to follow this up with an application of concealer and possibly a layer of foundation to even out the look.

Contouring products, unlike concealers and color-correctors, are used to add definition rather than to disguise bruising and blemishes. There are two elements in a set of contouring products: the highlighter and the contouring shadow. With correct application contouring products can take emphasis off of swollen areas using light and shadow so these products are great for people who have had rhinoplasty or facial implants.

Contouring products are more difficult to apply than other camouflage cosmetics so it is best to have a makeup artist explain the application technique when you purchase your products. Basically, application involves applying the highlighting product to a prominent area on your face (for example if you have had rhinoplasty this would be along the bridge of your nose) and applying the contouring shadow to the swollen areas (for rhinoplasty patients this is usually on either side of the nose). Once you have applied these products you will want to blend them in and apply a coat of foundation to achieve a natural result.

If you end up purchasing camouflage cosmetics and can't seem to figure out how to use them don't be afraid to make an appointment with a qualified makeup artist who can teach you about proper application techniques. Once you learn how to use your camouflage cosmetics you will be able to revel in the magnificence of your new look.
