When people undergo any cosmetic surgery they expect the results to be immediate. Considering how much time and money that these patients invest in undergoing these surgical procedures, this is understandable. However, many of these patients find that they are initially disappointed with the results of their cosmetic surgery procedure. This is because immediately after the surgery, the patient's body needs time to recuperate. Due to this, it will take a short period of time before the final results of the cosmetic surgery will be revealed. This phenomenon is true for liposuction. The most popular cosmetic surgery procedure, liposuction involves the surgical removal of excess fat deposits from areas of a patient's body. Widely considered one of the safest and most efficient cosmetic surgery procedures available, liposuction results also take some time to be fully displayed.

The key to obtaining excellent liposuction results actually starts much earlier than the actual surgical procedure. By choosing a board certified, highly qualified plastic surgeon, a patient is taking the initial steps to receiving excellent liposuction results. An honest dialogue between a patient and their plastic surgeon about the expected liposuction results is necessary for the patient to be happy with the outcome of their surgery.

Following the surgery, the patient will not be able to see the full results of their treatment. Although liposuction surgery is a safe and efficient cosmetic surgery, it is still a draining experience for the body. As a result, immediately after the surgery:

• The patient will notice swelling in their body
• The patient will have to wear a liposuction garment (otherwise known as a compression garment) to assist the body in its healing and adjusting to the changes caused by the surgery
• Within the first week of liposuction recovery, the patient will not be able to fully detect the full liposuction results.

Within days after the surgery, the patient will notice that swelling has reduced significantly, although it is still present. Once they are able to take off their compression garment, the patient will be able to have some idea what the full results of their liposuction surgery will be. Noticing that fat found in the part of their body that had been operate on is now gone, the patient will become increasingly optimistic about the final liposuction results.

After a couple of weeks the patient will be able to notice most of the liposuction results. At this point, the swelling present immediately after the surgery has disappeared and the patient can begin to prepare for the full changes in their body caused by the surgery. Between the six-week and two month mark, the patient will be able to see the full liposuction results. By this point, the swelling has disappeared and the patient's body has fully adjusted to the changes caused by the treatment.
