Liposuction
Liposuction
The weight loss industry is a multibillion dollar industry. And it’s no surprise considering that approximately 65% of Americans are overweight. It’s difficult to go through a day in American society without seeing a billboard, a commercial or a magazine that isn’t offering ‘the next best thing for weight loss.’ Although, many people may diet and exercise religiously, they are sometimes still unable to achieve the results they want. Further, some people are prone to fat deposits in certain areas of the body such as the abdomen or buttocks and have a difficult time effecting any changes to these stubborn areas. Many of these individuals turn to liposuction (‘lipo’) surgery. Lipoplasty can provide the answer for people who have spent years trying to enhance areas of their body. For women, the most popular areas for liposuction are the love handles, abdomen, arms, neck, face, and chest.
Nature of Liposuction
Liposuction (technical term lipoplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes fat deposits from designated areas of the body. Several techniques can be used during liposuction surgery, but, generally speaking, the plastic surgeon uses a probe that is inserted into the patient’s body through a small incision. The surgeon then breaks up the fatty cells and extracts them from the targeted area of the body.
For health and safety reasons, plastic surgeons can only remove under ten pounds of fat from a patient’s body during each surgical procedure; therefore, liposuction surgery should not be considered a means to weight loss. The goal of liposuction is to create a more proportional body image and to remove excess fat from the body.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, lipoplasty has been the top overall surgical procedure since the Society started collecting nationwide procedural statistics in 1997. The procedure is equally as popular among women and as it is among men.
Lipoplasty surgery has become one of the fastest, most effective and safest cosmetic surgery procedures available today. Good candidates for liposuction surgery are in good health, both mentally and physically, have realistic expectations for their surgery, and have healthy skin with good elasticity. Lipoplasty may be the perfect solution for you if you have a fatty pocket that just doesn’t seem to be responsive to diet and exercise. Liposuction cost can vary depending on the extent of the surgery. Details of your procedure, including financial obligations, should be thoroughly discussed prior to any cosmetic surgery.
