Nose Surgery Procedure
Procedure
If you've been thinking about nose surgery to fix a structural problem with your nose, you're probably wondering how it's done. Before you go through a lengthy process of consultation it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the basic technique and recovery process.
Before you do anything else, you need to consider if plastic surgery is what you really need. This is the hardest choice to make. If a nose that's more in line with the rest of your face will give you peace of mind, then it's probably a good idea. If it's a minor problem that you can live with, it may not be worth the time and money that you'll need to spend. Often it's a good idea to find others who have gone through a similar experience and get their advice.
When you've decided it's something you desire, your next step is to find a board-certified plastic surgeon. There are many of them in any given city, so a thorough investigation of his or her background, training, and experience are essential. It wouldn't hurt to look around the facility as well to make sure it's well maintained and equipped.
Consultation
Once you've found a surgeon, set up a consultation. In your consultation session you can ask any questions you've been thinking about. The surgeon will walk you though the entire procedure and give you preparation advice and instructions.
The actual surgery normally takes place in the surgeon's office on an outpatient procedure. That means that only local anesthetics will be required and patients get to return home on the same day. The basic technique involves the separation of the skin from the underlying tissue and cartilage. The cartilage is easily shaped for enlargement or reduction, depending on the patient's needs. A simply procedure is completed within two hours, with more complex contouring taking a bit longer.
Once done, the skin is put back on top of the cartilage and possibly sutured. A splint will be necessary for the first week or so in order to provide support and shaping for the newly redesigned nose.
Nose Surgery is Safe
Nose surgery is a mildly invasive procedure that usually requires only light reconstruction of underlying tissue. It's a safe and well-understood technique that can benefit anyone with a concern about his or her nose shape.
Most patients are extremely satisfied with the results. They're permanent and will leave you with a lasting happiness that stems from a boost in self-confidence. Get involved with your self-image and think about a nose surgery today.
