Side Effects and Risks

There aren't very many side effects and risks associated with camouflage cosmetics. Other than looking foolish due to improper application, the only real side effect that has been associated with these products is infection- and this is only when a patient has applied camouflage cosmetics too soon after surgery.

Many camouflage cosmetics are manufactured to eliminate the possibility of side effects and risks. Most are hypoallergenic and fragrance-free so they are gentle on the skin, but it is still a good idea to consult a physician before applying camouflage cosmetics after plastic surgery.

A family physician (or your surgeon) will be able to tell you whether or not your skin is ready to handle cosmetic application. Usually open wounds must be healed and stitches must be removed.

Avoid infections

Infection may occur when a patient attempts to use camouflage cosmetics before their wounds have healed. Obviously no good can come from applying makeup to open wounds so all patients should make sure that they consult their surgeon before attempting to use camouflage cosmetics.

Although camouflage cosmetics are designed to get you back out into the world while you are recovering from plastic surgery, if they are applied to open wounds you will probably find yourself confined indoors due to infection. The bottom line is that if you apply camouflage cosmetics before your wounds have closed you may ultimately prolong your healing time and this can be a real setback after surgery.

If you don't know which type of camouflage cosmetics you should look for ask your surgeon if he or she can recommend a specific brand that plastic surgery patients tend to use. In some cases your surgeon might even be able to put you in touch with a makeup artist who can teach you about applying camouflage cosmetics so you don't have to worry about running the risk of looking out of sorts with badly applied cosmetics.

If you are properly healed and apply the right products with the proper technique the only side effect you might notice after using camouflage cosmetics is the number of dates you will score with your new look and sense of self-esteem.
