Teen Breast Enlargement

Rightfully so, most plastic surgeons will discourage teen breast enlargement. The reasons for this are simple but young women are not aware or simply tend to overlook them. One of the main reasons is that the body doesn't finish developing even into early twenties and there are plenty of women who can gain a cup or two even after they hit nineteen.

Breast enlargement is the third-most popular surgical cosmetic procedure. The average age of a breast implant patient is a 34-cup. This is part of the reason why physicians have to turn away teens who are just too young for the surgery and have bodies that may not be able to handle the implants properly. Teen breast enlargement is tricky and lots of plastic surgery professionals suggest that this may be a body image problem and that the attention should be directed toward the teenager's psychological well-being rather than her body.

Not a dating accessory

Teens should however remember that breast implants are not a quick-fix for self-esteem or a dating accessory! Parents and teenagers should seriously consider all the risks and benefits of breast enlargement before finalizing the teen breast enlargement surgery.

Some blame the increase of interest in teen breast enlargement on "Reality" television where young celebrities get their breasts done and there's a certain amount of pressure on teenage girls who watch these shows and show increased interest in plastic surgery. They should however remember that breast implants are not a quick-fix for self-esteem or a dating accessory! Parents and teenagers should seriously consider all the risks and benefits of breast enlargement before finalizing the teen breast enlargement surgery. Not surprisingly there is a relationship between body image and depression and teenager' negative attitudes about appearance can be a symptom of depression or other psychological condition that is unhealthy. Sometimes these teens suffer from body dysmorphic disorder which is a mental illness characterized by self-loathing of one's body.

The obsession

It is true that most psychologically normal teens are self-conscious, and are not too happy with their appearance but when this obsession becomes extreme it should be noted.

Because plastic surgeons are supposed to screen all patients on psychological criteria as well as physical prior to surgery there is some chance that they will be able to "weed" out the unstable patient. Unfortunately most psychological testing is still based on adult criteria and doesn't apply to teens that enquire about plastic surgery.

Yes, plastic surgery helps lots of women to feel better about their bodies but adult women usually are quite aware of a persisting body issue that they have and therefore have had more time to make the responsible decision. With teenage women it is impossible to tell what they're trying to influence - their body and mind or the approval of boys.
