Tummy Tuck Garment
Tummy Tuck Garment
In most cases following a tummy tuck, your doctor will ask the patient to wear a compression garment. This compression garment is essential to improve blood circulation, minimize swelling after the procedure, accelerate the healing process, and allow the patient to recover faster. Additionally a compression garment also provides support to surgical areas for more comfort and helps the skin fit better to the body's new outline. Often your doctor may ask you to wear compression garments during both the First Stage -- initial 1-2 weeks of post-op -- and then Second Stage -- 2-8 weeks post-op -- of recovery.
Tummy tuck garments are made of a strong, breathable and lightweight compression fabric. The garment provides compression in the lower abdomen, flank, hip, and thigh area. It is meant to improve blood circulation, minimize swelling, flush the body out of potentially harmful fluids and further on, it helps skin fit better to it new contours.
Other than tummy tuck garments there are also other products available that are meant to speed up the recovery of a tummy tuck patient.
-
Cold and hot therapy - Because the surgery causes post-operative swelling and bruising to take shape, cold and hot therapy is needed to relieve these symptoms. Cold therapy is most effective in reducing swelling as well as relieving sensations of pain, and accelerating the healing process. Hot therapy helps break down and disintegrate bruising discolorations on the skin. Additionally, hot therapy provides moisture or dry heat to areas of discomfort and provides soothing on sore areas and tissues that have undergone surgery.
-
Bed wedge pillows are specially designed to provide proper alignment and to keep person's affected swollen areas, that were operated on during tummy tuck, elevated in a 45 degree angle that decreases swelling. The bed wedge pillows enable optimal blood circulation to all the vital healing areas. These are not ordinary pillows -- they are sturdy and a person doesn't have to worry about slipping off as you would with regular pillows. Also, you have less tension and stress on your body.
-
Lotions - Lotions such as arnica montana products can minimize your post-operative swelling and bruising. They also help you have less post-operative pain and discomfort and they accelerate your healing process.
-
Scar healing creams. Scar healing creams, silicone gels and ointments, and silicone sheets are specially designed to improve the healing of your scars and help in scar reduction. These cosmetics can help flatten, soften and smoothen the scar, limit scar growth and size, and reduce the size of the scar.
