Tummy Tuck Scars
Tummy Tuck Scars
Following a few weeks of surgery, the tummy tuck scars appear dark and thick. This may last a number of months. Once the wound remodels and improves the scars become less noticeable. Majority of patients see the scar become more thin and pliable that later, also fades way. Sometimes there are some patients who have a genetic predisposition to poor wound healing. Their scars can remain raised and fail to fade - you should have an indication what your "history" of scars is like, based on experiences with prior surgery or older wounds.
The visible raised scar is infrequent but can happen. The techniques used in plastic surgery are designed to make it less common and usually, the best thing to do it to look at images of your surgeon's previous patients at intervals from the surgery. You will also need to understand that your result will vary from what you see because the pictures are just there to give you a general idea about tummy tucks and post-operative results.
No smoking
Scientific evidence exists that proves smoking increases the risk of implications, may delay healing, and could potentially lead to larger tummy tuck scars.
Lots of prospective tummy tuck patients are concerned about scaring. Since this is a surgical procedure, scars do result from tummy tuck surgery. However, while the resulting surgical scars may appear to worsen during the first few months following a tummy tuck, they will become less and less visible throughout the following months. In some tummy tuck cases, it may take up to a year before most scars flatten out and lighten in color and are less visible. The scaring is to be expected with a tummy tuck. It is important to keep in mind all the doctor's orders in order to minimize their visibility. For example scientific evidence exists that proves smoking increases the risk of implications, may delay healing, and could potentially lead to larger scars.
In most cases the scars will extend across the lowest part of your abdomen right above your bikini line. You will most likely have another scar around your belly button. The good news is that you can hide these scars easily by swimming suit. Many heal discretely, but others remain quite visible so you need to weigh your options and decide what bothers you more: the skin or the scar. If you're the right candidate for a tummy tuck surgery and if you alredy started to seek help for it than are more likely to look and feel better with a flatter abdomen and scars than you are with a bulging belly.
